Reasons Why People Cheat More Today Than Ever Before

It can be very disheartening to read about studies that show more and more spouses admitting to infidelity. Divorce rates are on the rise, and younger couples are finding it especially difficult to stay faithful to one another.

The recent information regarding marriage, divorce, and infidelity rates makes you wonder what is happening in our society to create this trend? The truth is that there are a number of factors coming together to cause more people to cheat than ever before.   And while more cheating is good for business if you are an infidelity investigator, I think we can all agree that we hope this trend doesn’t continue.

Improved Technology Means More Opportunity

Technology is frequently blamed for increased infidelity. It used to take a lot of effort to cheat on your spouse. Now, it is easier than ever to have a hidden email account, send secret text messages, use social media, or even set up a dating profile online. Thanks to smart phones, you can have a computer right in the palm of your hand that will connect you easily to practically anyone.

Years ago, married people would largely be limited to cheating with co-workers or neighbors. Now, they can reunite with old flames across the country thanks to technology.

Changes in Social Norms and Perceptions of Acceptable Behavior

Some people may argue that our culture is becoming more tolerant of promiscuous behavior. Linking back to the advancements in technology, it is often argued that ease of access to Internet pornography could be to blame for the rising infidelity rates. Due to more people viewing pornography on the web, the attitudes toward sexual behavior may be changing.

It could also be argued that an increase in Internet pornography may provide the motivation a married individual needs to take the next step and use the Internet to connect with someone for an affair.

Advances in Medicine Increasing Sex Drive

It’s getting hard to watch primetime television and NOT see a commercial for one of the big companies selling ED pills.  In much the same manner as the advances in digital technology have progressed, we have also seen much progress in the field of medicine over the last few years.

In particular, there have been new drugs, treatments, and supplements to help people increase their sex drive as they age or deal with medical conditions such as erectile dysfunction.  These treatments will often cause one spouse to become more sexually active than the other spouse, and also potentially unfaithful.

The reality is that people are finding it easier to connect with one another, and physically easier to have sex, and they are frequently taking advantage of these opportunities. Attitudes toward marriage could be seeing some major changes in the near future.
